This Week in Bluegrass: April 13 - April 19

Alright y'all, it's that time of the week again - time to dive into the bluegrass shows that have me fired up for the next few days. As always, there's no shortage of talent hitting stages across the country, so let's get to it.

First up, the Dirty Grass Players are bringing their high-energy show to The Basement in Nashville on Monday. If you haven't caught these guys live yet, do yourself a favor and get there early. Their latest album, Pickin' and Singin', is a masterclass in modern bluegrass, and I have a feeling they're going to tear the roof off the place.

Also on Monday, keep an eye out for Trish Plays Bass. She's got a couple shows lined up in Pittsburgh - one at calliope house inc and another at velum fermentation. Trish has been making waves in the bluegrass world with her inventive bass work, and these intimate shows are the perfect chance to see her in action up close. Definitely don't sleep on this one.

Greensboro Greatness

Tuesday night is shaping up to be a bluegrass bonanza in Greensboro, North Carolina. First up, Songs From The Road Band is hitting The Pyrle. These guys have that classic high-lonesome sound, and their harmonies are out of this world. If you're in the mood for some good old-fashioned bluegrass, this is the show for you.

Then it's Coyote Rodeo at ziggy's greensboro. I've been a fan of these guys ever since their debut album, Howlin', and their live shows never disappoint. Expect plenty of lightning-fast picking and soulful vocals.

And if that wasn't enough, Billy Strings is also in town on Tuesday, playing at first horizon coliseum. This young phenom is taking the bluegrass world by storm, and his shows are always a must-see. Bring your dancing shoes - you're going to need 'em.

Across the Country

Out west, High Lonesome is hitting spirit hound distillers in Lyons, Colorado on Tuesday. These guys have a sound that's equal parts bluegrass and Americana, and their shows are always a blast. If you're in the area, do yourself a favor and check 'em out.

Over in Fairfield, Connecticut, Shadowgrass is playing at ftc on Tuesday. I've been a fan of these guys since their early days, and they just keep getting better. Their blend of traditional bluegrass and more modern influences is really something special.

And out in Solana Beach, California, Sierra Hull is taking the stage at belly up tavern on Wednesday. If you haven't heard Sierra's latest album, 25 Trips, you're missing out. Her guitar work is absolutely mind-blowing, and her vocals have this haunting beauty to them. This is one you won't want to miss.

Festival Season Heats Up

As if all that wasn't enough, we've got some killer festival action going down this weekend. First up, the big lick bluegrass festival 2026 in Oakboro, North Carolina is bringing in some heavy hitters - Lonesome River Band, Authentic Unlimited, and Southern Legacy. These festivals are always a blast, and with a lineup like that, this one's sure to be a weekend to remember.

And down in Memphis, the shell daze music festival is hosting Old Crow Medicine Show. These guys are bluegrass royalty, and their shows are always a high-energy, foot-stomping good time. If you can make it to Memphis, do it - this is one you won't want to miss.

Well, that's just a taste of what's going on this week, bluegrass fans. As always, be sure to check out the full listings on GrassGigs to see what's happening in your neck of the woods. And if you happen to see me at one of these shows, come say hey - I'm always down for a good ol' jam session.
